A new Pentagon report says an interstellar object could be a mothership passing through the Solar System and releasing small exploratory probes to monitor Earth.
The text was written by Sean Kirkpatrick, director of AARO (All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office) of the US Department of Defense’s , and Abraham Loeb, chairman of the Department of Astronomy at Harvard University.
AARO has existed since 2022 and is dedicated exclusively to receiving and analyzing reports of unidentified phenomena reported by military personnel.
“An artificial interstellar object could potentially be a mothership that releases many small probes during its close passage to Earth, an operation not unlike NASA missions. These probes would spread like ‘dandelion seeds’ and could be separated from the mothership by the Sun’s gravitational force or have maneuverability,” the report says.
Astronomer Abraham Loeb became known for his theory that the space object Oumuamua, also mentioned in the report, was an alien artifact.
“With a proper design, these tiny probes could reach Earth and other planets in the Solar System to explore them, as the mothership pass through the Solar System just as Oumuamua did. Astronomers would not be able to notice the release of these small probes because they do not reflect enough sunlight for existing research telescopes to notice them,” the paper’s authors wrote.
